The Longest Day 2019

Sunday 14th July 2019

Important update #2 from the organiser

All paddlers must be members of SLSGB to compete and no entries will be taken on the day without proof of membership (i.e. membership card or email from SLSGB providing the number). All competitors registered will checked by SLSGB prior to the event to ensure they are members.

Important update from the organiser

In order to provide the highest practical levels of safety cover, providing assurance for you as a competitor, the Longest Day Ocean Challenge is a SLSGB approved event and is operated under SLSGB’s insurance. As such you will be required to have a SLSGB membership to compete.

SLSGB full membership is £25 and is achieved by completing an online membership:

Ski Race

The Ski race is open to SLSA single and double skis and ocean single and double skis. The race is designed to challenge the experienced paddler but also provide an entry-level race for new or inexperienced paddlers.

This race will take the same format as the Exmouth Epic Bay Race. It is a 3-lap course (each lap being ~4km).

Once the lead ski completes three laps, the ‘course’ closes and the remaining paddlers on the course complete the lap they are on and head into the finish. This ensures that all paddlers finish in a small time window and that the race caters for a range of paddlers’ experience.

Board Race

This is an eliminator short course race format as per previous years. Each category will get at least three races after which there will be a knock out with a number of paddlers being eliminated after each round until the medal places are contended.

This format ensures that all paddlers get a number of races making it an ideal fun event for both experienced and new paddlers thinking about starting competition.
